He grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and is a graduate of Louisiana State University (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology), Dallas Theological Seminary (Master of Theology in Family Life Ministry), and Fuller Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry in Youth, Family, and Culture). He married Ellen, his college sweetheart, in 1994, two weeks after graduating from LSU and two days before moving to Dallas for graduate school. Ellen grew up in Metairie, Louisiana, and is also a graduate of LSU. They have two children, a son, Taylor, and a daughter, Anna Katherine.
Trinity Church marks just the fourth church staff Lance has served on in the last 25 years. Over that time, he has ministered in the following pastoral ministries: junior and senior high students, college, family, counseling, education, equipping, and missions. Regardless of the specifics of any one ministry, the goal remains the same: to proclaim Christ, admonishing and teaching so that everyone can be presented mature in Him (Colossians 1:28).
